Beijing born author C. Pam Zhang’s second novel Land of Milk and Honey, named best novel of 2023 by NPR, Harper's Bazaar, Town & Country, Kirkus Reviews, Scientific American and more, tells a haunting yet magical story of an ambitious chef desperate to keep cooking even as most of the commercial crops are dying and the world’s store of food dwindles. Leaving her dreary city, she takes a job at a decadent mountaintop colony of the elite as a private chef where she’s pushed to reshape the world far beyond the plate. Land of Milk and Honey is a dystopian novel about food, pleasure, power, monstrosity, and womanhood as it lays bare the ethics of seeking pleasure in a dying world and asks us what roles we are willing to play to survive. Event is limited to 15 participants.
